This 9-day Kenya Grand Tour Safari across Samburu, Lake Nakuru, the Maasai Mara, and Amboseli by Alaskan World Adventures is Kenya without shortcuts.
4 parks. 4 completely different ecosystems. 9 days of game drives, open landscapes, and wildlife encounters that build on each other from the moment you leave Nairobi to the moment you return. This is the itinerary for the traveler who wants to understand Kenya, not just visit it.
The journey begins in the north, where most Kenya safaris never go. Samburu National Reserve sits in a semi-arid landscape along the Ewaso Nyiro River, and it delivers a wildlife experience unlike anything the southern parks offer. The northern special five - Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx - are found here and almost nowhere else in Kenya. Elephants wade along the river banks. Leopards move through the dry riverine forest. Two full days in Samburu give you time to go deep into one of Kenya's most distinctive and undervisited safari destinations.
From Samburu, the route heads south through the scenic central highlands, past coffee and tea plantations, and into the Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru National Park comes next, with its famous flamingo-lined soda lake, reliable rhino sightings, and tree-climbing lions that make it one of the most rewarding single-day stops on any Kenyan itinerary.
The third chapter opens into the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the name that needs no introduction. Two full days here cover the open savannah, the Mara River, and the Big Five territory that has made this reserve famous across the world. A full-day game drive with a picnic lunch near the Mara River puts you at the heart of one of the most productive wildlife areas on the planet.
From the Mara, the route pauses at Lake Naivasha for a lakeside night and an optional boat safari among hippos and waterbirds. Then it heads southeast for the final act: Amboseli National Park, where the Tusker elephants roam beneath Mount Kilimanjaro and a full day of game drives closes the safari in the most cinematic way possible.
Alaskan World Adventures knows this route inside out. We know where the leopards rest in Samburu, where the rhinos drink in Nakuru, and where the elephants cross in Amboseli at golden hour. All you have to do is show up ready.
